Margo Millet was in her early 20s, unemployed, and raising a child on her own when this drama opened. Her mother had waited tables at Hooters. Her father was an ex-pro wrestler. Then her father turned back up in her life, and she began folding his wrestling-world tactics into the way she ran the account. Widow’s Bay set its story on a small New England island that locals were sure was cursed. The residents were a superstitious bunch, quick to read warning signs into whatever went wrong around them. Set in present-day London, Criminal Record returned for a second season built around two detectives at odds. An anonymous phone call had pulled them into a dispute over an old murder case. One was a young woman near the start of her career. The other was an established, well-connected man set on guarding his reputation. Their standoff carried weight beyond the case itself, touching on race, the failures of institutions, and how hard common ground can be to reach in a divided Britain. It stayed close on the two of them throughout.

By its third season, Shrinking was still following a therapist working through grief. His method had drifted well outside the rules of his profession. Season 5 of For All Mankind continued its alternate take on history, set in a world where the space race between nations never wound down. To work out what happened to him, she had to build something with her sixteen-year-old stepdaughter, Bailey, a relationship that had not been close. The two of them, wary of each other, became the unlikely pair trying to make sense of his disappearance. The second season followed that search and the slow, uneasy way the two learned to rely on one another, all while the question of where he went hung over everything.
